DSA is deeply heartbroken and stands in solidarity with the people of Venezuela affected by the two massive earthquakes that hit the major cities of Caracas and La Guaira, and also in the states of Trujillo, Yaracuy, Carabobo, Aragua, and Miranda. As of July 15th, these earthquakes have resulted in over 4,700 deaths, though this number will likely rise as thousands remain missing.
The US Treasury has temporarily eased of some US sanctions to allow aid for Venezuelan earthquake relief and DSA is fundraising to support rescue and rebuilding efforts in Venezuela. With many buildings destroyed, Venezuela has been forced to rely on makeshift medical stations to treat those wounded. While DSA has long called for the elimination of illegal US sanctions against Venezuela, the US government's limited easing of sanctions are set to expire and we implore those reading this to support our fundraising efforts immediately.
Unused funds may be used by DSA's International Committee for other purposes related to its mission. Contributions made to support the International Committee are not tax-deductible.
